On February 23, 1936, Puerto Rican Nationalists Hiram Rosado and Elías Beauchamp assassinated Colonel Elisha Francis Riggs [the US-appointed police chief of PR]. Colonel Riggs was responsible for the Río Piedras Massacre. Both Rosado and Beauchamp were eventually executed without trial at police headquarters in San Juan.
